For Accommodation Operators, Pool Safety Just Got Serious!
New pool safety laws apply from 1st December 2010. These laws apply to Resorts, Hotels, Motels, Caravan Parks, Backpacker hostels and other Business establishments that sell room accommodation, and have swimming pools.
If you manage an accommodation business with a pool, the Queensland Government has made it necessary for you to arrange a pool fence safety inspection. Without a Pool Safety Certificate you will not be able to book overnight rooms (or van sites) unless you have an exemption, or choose to apply for an exemption.
The Queensland Government has recognised the enormous demand for pool inspections and has allowed a 6 month "Phase in" period for you to comply. This means that if you dont have a Pool Safety Certificate displayed by 1st May 2011, you will not be able to earn an income.
